10 signs your child may have dyslexia – a parent checklist

  • Finds reading slow or laboured
  • Trouble recalling the main points or key events of what they have just read
  • Inconsistent spelling errors
  • Difficulty organising written work or putting ideas into writing
  • Avoids reading or writing tasks
  • Sometimes experiences maths difficulties especially remembering times tables
  • Takes longer to complete homework or assignments
  • Struggles to remember and follow instructions
  • Difficulty organising themself for the day (such as equipment, resources, & schedules)
  • Frustration with school and not being able to showcase their true ability and skills

Whilst dyslexia does often have common traits, it’s important to note that it is a spectrum condition and therefore each person is different and will experience dyslexia differently. Some pupils seem to ‘mask’ their difficulties well, whilst others may show their frustration openly and disengage from learning and school and may lose self-confidence.

If some of these issues sound familiar, then contact me to discuss whether dyslexia could be a factor for your child.
